At Thornton Primary School, we work hard to ensure all children thoroughly enjoy coming to school each day and develop a thirst for learning. We have high ambitions for all children and pride ourselves on offering as many exciting opportunities to learn in a highly inclusive way so that when our children leave our school they are confident, proud of who they are and life long learners.
Within our website, you will find lots of information so that you as parents/carers can best understand our school and the learning opportunities we strive to provide. In addition to this, we regularly update our Twitter and Facebook pages with all the latest goings on from our Forest School as well as what the children are learning about in the classroom.
At our school, every child and their learning really matters to all members of staff. This was positively recognised in our latest Ofsted Inspection in December 2017. The commitment from both the staff and governors to make this school the best possible place for our children to learn is clearly evident in everything that happens. We are constantly looking to improve and are innovative in our approaches to teaching children.
We currently have 130 children on roll who come to school each day with enthusiasm to do well and a commitment to learn. It’s our role in school to make learning fun and engaging and ensure that all children have the opportunities to do so in a safe and stimulating environment. We believe in the power of the children's voice; ensuring that the children are able to share their views and thoughts about how to improve our school further through our wonderful school, sports and eco councils.
In addition to our 4-11 year olds, in January 2019, we opened up our school to 3 year olds. We now have 17 pre-school children in school for up to 30 hours a week. They have been an absolute delight to welcome into school, coming in each day with happy, smiling faces ready to have fun.
If you are a prospective parent of a child of pre-school or school age, a visit can be arranged by contacting our office staff. I would be delighted to show you round so that you can experience for yourself our school and what the Senior Leadership Team and School Governors' vision for Thornton Primary School is for the coming years.
