Headteacher's Welcome

At Thornton Primary School, we work hard to ensure all children enjoy coming to school each day. We have high ambitions for all and pride ourselves on making sure each child develops the essential knowledge and skills they need to thrive. It is our ambition that when our children leave our school they are confident, proud of who they are and ready for the next stage of their education.

Every child and their learning really matters to all members of staff, something that was positively recognised in our latest Ofsted Inspection in February 2023 when the school received a 'Good' judgement overall and 'Outstanding' for Personal Development. The commitment from both the staff and governors to make this school the best possible place for our children to learn is clearly evident in everything that happens. We are constantly looking to improve and develop teaching & learning and are innovative in our approaches; our staff receive high quality professional development opportunities so they can be the best teacher possible which helps ensure that all children have the best experiences of school.

In addition to our 4-11 year olds, in January 2019, we opened up our school to children aged 3 years+. Our Pre-School children learn in the same classroom as our Reception children and have the advantage of being taught by a qualified teacher and experienced Teaching Assistants. The children that join our Pre-School and are then offered a place in school enjoy a seamless transition to Reception meaning they can 'hit the ground running' when they begin their Reception year.

Within our website, you will find lots of information so that you as parents/carers can gain a picture of our school. In addition to this, we regularly update our Twitter and Facebook pages with all the latest goings on such as special events and what the children are learning about in the classroom and outside in our world class Forest School.

If you are a prospective parent of a child of pre-school or school age, a visit can be arranged by contacting our office staff on 01253 921128. I would be delighted to show you round so that you can experience for yourself our school and what the Senior Leadership Team and School Governors' vision for Thornton Primary School is, both in the short and longer term.
