At Thornton Primary School, we work hard to ensure all children thoroughly enjoy coming to school each day and that they are able to develop a thirst for learning. We have high ambitions for all children and pride ourselves on offering as many exciting opportunities to learn in a highly inclusive way. When our children leave our school they are confident, proud of who they are and life-long learners.
Within our website, you will find lots of information so that you as parents/carers can best understand our school and the learning opportunities available to all children. In addition to this, we regularly update our Twitter and Facebook pages with all the latest goings on as well as what the children are learning about in the classroom and outside in our world class Forest School.
At our school, every child and their learning really matters to all members of staff. This was positively recognised in our latest Ofsted Inspection in December 2017. The commitment from both the staff and governors to make this school the best possible place for our children to learn is clearly evident in everything that happens. We are constantly looking to improve and develop teaching & learning and are innovative in our approaches. This ensures that all children have the best possible experience at our school and make the best progress they can.
We currently have 130 children on roll who come to school each day with enthusiasm to do well and a commitment to learn. It’s our role in school to make learning fun and engaging and ensure that all children have the opportunities to do so in a safe and stimulating environment. We believe in the power of the children's voice; ensuring that the children are able to share their views and thoughts about how to improve our school further through our wonderful School, Sports and Eco Councils and involving them in discussions about their learning and ways in which we can make improvements to the ways in which we teach.
In addition to our 4-11 year olds, in January 2019, we opened up our school to children aged 3 years. Our Pre-School children learn in the same classroom as our Reception children and have the advantage of being taught by a qualified teacher and experienced Teaching Assistants. The children that join our Pre-School and are then offered a place in school, enjoy a seamless transition to Reception meaning they can 'hit the ground running' when they begin their Reception year.
If you are a prospective parent of a child of pre-school or school age, a visit can be arranged by contacting our office staff on 01253 921128. I would be delighted to show you round so that you can experience for yourself our school and what the Senior Leadership Team and School Governors' vision for Thornton Primary School is in the coming years.
